Ruffnut Thorston
Hi all. Does anyone supply DCC sockets, preferbly with blanking plugs included, preferbly with wire tails attached, to fit to older Non-DCC-Ready locos? It would be better than just hard wiring a decoder methinks, as the option to change out the chip and alo run on pure DC would be available, as for a DCC fitted loco... Thanks... Chrissaf
Like these for example.....plus blanking plugs are stocked by Hattons (plugs also on ebay if you search. Both items may even be available from same ebay seller to save P&P)..
Ruffnut Thorston
Thanks Chris.... That looks likely! Your signature is correct.... 😉 Chris........ Making the wood in the trees visible. I am just getting started with DCC.... So far 1 loco with hard-wired chip fitted, and a Fleischmann Loc-Boss controller! 96RAF
I have used the normal Hornby loco 8 pin sockets (sourced from Peters Spares) as well as these NEM 652 sockets pictured which I got from Ali-Express for about 30p each (for 10 or more), post free. You can solder direct to the latter's pins as per the ones Chris linked to or you can mount them on a bit of vero-board with a couple of mounting screw holes drilled in to make installing them in a loco easier. I just sticky pad these in. /media/tinymce_upload/87ef1e26105a71e9b95caa217ab8323d.JPG
Ruffnut Thorston
Hi RAF96 Thanks for the information. Seems like a good idea for the future, when I have a map of which pin needs which colour wire for NMRA installations. In time I will be installing quite a few decoder sockets / decoders! 😉
Chrissaf
When this page opens, scroll down a bit further and there are diagrams showing the pin / wire colour mappings.
Fishmanoz
Read the lot while you are there Sarah, great source of DCC info, as I'm sure Flashbang will agree.
Ruffnut Thorston
Much thanks! Now that is a mine of information, especially the "Stall Current" measuring set up! I will be fitting some DCC gear to X.04 powered locos, so this will help! More reading to do! I like reading....Research is Fun! ;)
96RAF
@sarahwhen doing stall checks make sure your meter can take the current as many only run to 200mA.if so then you can still do it by mesuring voltage using a shunt Then pplying ohms law to find the current.someone will come up with a diagram shortly I'm sure.lidl recently did a cheap 10A capable meter. Ruffnut Thorston
Hi. I have a 10A capable multimeter....I think it came from Aldi years ago now! 😉 My first wired sockets arrived this afternoon.... Blanking plugs on order (in the post). Now I'll need some decoders! 😆
