LCDR
Arising from questions concerning barrier wagons, I came across the BR Bylaws regarding Explosives today. In summary - No more than five vehicles containing explosives shall be loaded or unloaded at a railway station, wharf or goods yard, and no more than five vehicles containing explosives shall be conveyed in any train. Vehicles to be marshalled as near to the middle of the train as possible. Explosives shall normally be conveyed in Gunpowder vans. Explosives shall be packed in metalic packages. If conveyed in other than a gunpowder van they must not be loaded with other dangerous goods (especially those that are spontaniously combustable or inflammable.). No more than 1 ton of explosive to be loaded in any other type of vehicle.

Captain Mainwaring
Another interesting post. I wonder if the rule about the number of gunpowder wagons allowed in a set also applied in WW2?? Thanks for posting. Capt Mainwaring
