Pretty Mediocre Modeller
Yes I've built one. It's a product of it's time (early 80's), good in its day but dated now. The fit is not brilliant and the surface detail is heavy raised lines. The engine intakes and exhausts are not good either, with lots of seams needing filling. The undercarriage is ok, and there are several options such as open access hatch with ladder ( opening into a vast empty area), and optional Blue Steel or conventional bomb bay ( only available closed). Finally I think the mould is pretty worn now and this has resulted in lots of flash.Your best bet is to go for the new Valiant or Victor and wait for Airfix to retool the Vulcan. Monty1970
Hi,Pretty Mediocre Modeller, as a newbie what do you mean by this sentance with the flash?"Finally I think the mould is pretty worn now and this has resulted in lots of flash."Many thanksIan
peebeep
Flash is the thin flakes of plastic that form on the edges of the moulded components. If the two halves of the moulding tool don't hold together firmly during the injection process, or the injection pressure is too great, hot plastic is squeezed out and forms flash. Kenneth ONeill
Regarding @pretty mediocre modeler on "lack of interior detail", the real Vulcans I've been in have all been "coal hole black" overall (like the one in the Sean Connery Thunderball), so about the only interior detail it's worth adding to the rear cabin is a floor.
