'sticky' classic track

Recommended Posts

I have just got my hands on loads of classic track. It is clean and I have joined it to my sports track using converters. Most cars work fine but I had to file down the slot guide on a newly purchased  'classic MG'. It worked ok for a while then the classic track seemed to develop what I can only describe as sticky spots. These are at the he exact mid point of some of the inside curves of the classic track, and on one exit from a classic track crossover.  This doesn't seem to be anything to do with the slot, but feels magnetic almost as if the magnetism has increased. It is present whether the power is on or off, and and is only a problem for the MG. Anyone got any thoughts?

Perhaps the metal strips on both sides of the slot are deformed in some places and "biting" the guide blade. There could also be some plastic flash at the floor of the slot blocking the guide blade on the MG. There may even be small "humps" and the metal rails are touching the magnet on the MG at those points.

I found that some cars with lower profiles are prone to this. Especially when the track is ever so slightly warped. Escorts have that lump underneath that almost rubs along the track and is prone to snag on any slightly out of shape rail end, esp on corners. Perhaps try the muscle car ranges like the Mustang Boss 302, they sit a little higher off the track - they look awesome and race well. Get some needle nose pliers as well to keep the rails as true as poss.
