Ben_T
Hello All,Jusst a quick question regarding cork and where you purchase it from. So far I have bought 2.5mm cork from Amazon but it does tend to be quite expensive!Does anyone have any tips for where to get more cheaply? I am using it mainly to give me a "shoulder" for the ballast, and now I've started with 2.5mm I guess I need to stick to that really. Many thanksBen

LCDR
Yes but you need to open an awful large amount of bottles to underlay your track ................... or maybe that is the idea? ................... hic! 😉
AndyMac1707817969
Exactly, after a couple of bottles you don't care what noise it makes
Bulleidboy
Model Railway Solutions in Poole sell self-adhesive cork underlay in metre lengths, and also pre-cut shapes for all the Peco points (whatever radius), crossings etc., - they even have the hole for the point rod drilled(?). They have a peel-off back and when placed in position are well and truly stuck - they can be removed with a scraper. Downside for you is that they are 2mm thick - unless you haven't bought to much 2.5mm. I used it for the whole of my layout. For curves, the metre length has cut-out to enable it to be laid in a curve.
Ben_T
Thanks all, I will take a look at that website. Oh, and a search through a few bins in my boozy street should manage locate a few corks :)
BR63
I have found a good deal with top.eco.wall. (via amazon). Admittedly it is 2mm thick but it wouldn't be a difficult thing to do to introduce a hidden thin card transition length below the cork to address the difference to 2.5mm. A 10m long roll, 1m wide is currently £24. Simple thing is for you to cut off strips in a width to suit your needs. Making cardboard templates for curves and turnouts is worthwhile too. Must be whole lot cheaper than buying short roll pieces at great cost.

96RAF
At one stage my boy (car parts supplier) brought me home a couple of damaged rolls of 25mm wide by 3mm and 12mm thick black self adhesive foam seal used on Lotus cars. These worked very well when the track was also glued to it Copydex style, but I didn't have enough for a full track so never pursued it any further.
