ChrisM12321
I've bought the Gloucester Pullman set and was expecting to get sound for the engine, but apparently Hornby don't supply that. How do I get sound for Duke of Gloucester please?
walkingthedog
You only get sound if you buy a DCC Fitted sound loco. Which set have you bought, is it the Gloucester City Pullman? If so that is not DCC but DCC Ready which means it has a socket for a DCC decoder.
Howbi
You can get a full spec sound decoder from various suppliers......for example, a Zimo 8 pin sound decoder + speaker, pre-loaded with the DoG sound costs around £105.........or pre-order a Hornby TTS decoder with either the A3 steam sound or the A1 steam sound for £40......depends whether you really want authentic sounds......HB
walkingthedog
Do you have a digital DCC or analogue DC layout. The controller with the set is DC.
96RAF
Cast around for a TTS DoG decoder on the various shops and eBay. TTS sound will not work on DC only DCC.
ChrisM12321
Thanks. I want realistic sounds. I don't yet have DCC. Are there any decoders specifically for the Duke? If, not would an A3 be the closest?
Howbi
@ChrisM...........You must have a DCC layout in order to benefit from sound decoders.........I have already given you an example of a DoG specific sound decoder.........if you Google "DoG sound decoder" you will get other retailers who can supply decoders loaded with the DoG sound file........and as RAF96 suggests, look around on the Internet and Ebay for a Hornby TTS DoG decoder...........HB
Rog RJ
You need a DCC controller to be able to get the best from a sound decoder. With a dc controller you will only get the basic running sounds, at best, and no sounds at all from a TTS decoder. Why spend good money on decoders that you can't really use? Most sound decoders cost in the region of £80 to £100 and the TTS decoders, when they are released as separate items, have an announced price of approx £40. Seems illogical to me to buy them without a controller that can make the most of them.
