The son of Triangman
I thought re-issue of this might be helpful to some here. It's my little guide to those with older locos and those who fit DCC them. The list is by no means exhaustive. These are average current draw Tri-ang-Hornby readings from the early 1970's quoted in catalouges, trade info etc.A word of WARNING is that the motor magnets loose magnetism over time and windings can decay so current draw may well be higher today than it was when these figures came out in the early 1970's. Milliamps is a measurement of current consumed, there are a 1000 milliamps in 1Amp. The son of Triangman
To inspire others, here is a Tri-ang X.04 powered 3F chassis fitted with a decoder. DCC is quite possible with older locos. This loco has a micro decoder fitted capable of taking a 1amp sustained current draw and stall current. An important thing to note is that I have used brush feed clips for both brushes rather than solder direct to the brushes as most do. This means changing the brushes when they wear out is easy and there is no need to unsolder wires on brushes! /media/tinymce_upload/b1041f27f59e3271dedc119de8762b21.jpg
Fishmanoz
Excellent info SoT. Can you tell me what the current draw is just for a Synchrosmoke unit on its own?
