I don't own this set, but found the information below. There may be an owner on this forum who can either confirm or deny the information below, so do come back and check a few times over the next few days to see if additional replies are added.

.

I found two sources on the Internet, both stating that the R2888M A4 Kingfisher in the set is "DCC Ready" and a loco located 8 pin socket. One source was on a different forum to this one and the above statement was made by an actual owner - see image below.

The other source - see image below.

Additionally, if this Hornby Service Sheet is the right one (it specifically mentions set supplied A4 locos). Then it too shows a loco 8 pin socket present.

It is a relatively simple job either to run a pair of extended wires from the decoder to a speaker in the tender or to relocate the decoder socket to the tender as well. If the latter then you desolder all wires from the socket, connect together the loco and tender pickup wires in the loco, then pick them up from the tender and also run the motor wires back to the tender. Resolder them back onto the socket and the job is almost done.

Depending upon the power transfer method between loco and tender (springy finger thing or proper plug and socket) it may be necessary to install a 4 wire harness across the gap, using the standard Hornby parts which are easily found from Peters Spares, etc.
