The Hornby Peckett 0-4-0ST - Manchester Ship Canal R3428 has only been release just a short while ago but is already out of stock, How come?? I can not locate one any where or at least at a normal price. There seems to be some on E Bay at ridiculous prices but when I contacted Hornby they say that there isn't a future date for this coming back into stock. Why was there not enough ordered on a popular engine like this one????

I am really upset about this!!!!!!

Has any one else that has this same problem, if so please  complain on this thread. Thankyou in advance.

David, Hi, This loco, was on Pre order, and i imagine all those on here who wanted one, did just that, as you also, could have done. Secondly, as to  sufficient stock, i dont think Hornby, have a crystal ball, so just how many, would you suggest. They have just had a Massive sale of excess stock, via Hattons, so the last thing they would want, is to over order.. Whilst it is a pity, you cant find one, you may have to bite the ebay bullet. I dont blame the ebay dealers. They took the risk, that it would be popular, and invested, by buying in supplies. Its supply and demand, i am afraid. john

Hi Yes you are right but when something is very popular why cant they order more maybe to special order if they can get enough people to pre-order? Surely when and item has already been in production it should be a lot easier? still I will just have to wait and see how things go. I  was not aware earlier that this loco was going to be available otherwise I might have pre-ordered. Thats life I am afraid Thanks any way.

I did not pre-order mine, just bought them from a Hattons when they came into stock I think that was before Christmas. I always find it easier to obtain an item before it sells out sooner rather than later. Cannot expect to see stocks of items lying round on the shelf until some people get around to buying one.

You can always buy one on eBay for around £120 to £130 if you want one that much. That is what people are prepared to pay for them now then that is what they will be sold for. I don't think you can expect someone to sell you a loco from £50 less than they can get for it elsewhere.

In my opinion they are one of the best products Hornby have produced in a long time and it’s good to see them sell out quickly, someone at Hornby is making good decisions, they should only ever be making enough of an item which they can expect to sell or soon they won’t be making anything

The Peckitts were a long awaited model and were eagerly followed by the model railway press. I think that Hornby screwed up on the quantity that should have been made. I avoided them initially but the Huntley and Palmers one took my eye. Hattons had sold out along with many others but I got one at list elsewhere. Maybe the speculators bought up several to sell on Ebay at top price, probably making more per unit than Hornby.

Phew!! Hornby have really messed up with all the pecketts, surely they should order more as it seems very popular. i know it is hard to see what the public want but Hornby go to a lot of Railway expos and should get a taste of what is best to sell and order. I shall go to my next railway show and ask Hornby direct.

Thanks to all of you for letting me know your opinions.

Regards Dave

David, i dont think that hornby have messed up at all. They had no idea the size of the market, or that  they would catch on the way they did. They could make 500, more, and be left with loads unsold, just as they did with other models, that Hattons have just sold off on their behalf.  Would be interesting to see how many members on here bought them. I only know of 3. john

@Yelrow I pre-ordered and bought both MSC no 11 and Dodo, both of which I can justify with only a little helping of Rule 1. On the other hand, although H&P is really pretty, it just didn't fit.

Unlike some other posters I really hope Hornby don't produce any more of the existing three. In their financial situation surely it is better for them to sell every one at full price rather than producing too many and ending up then selling them at a massive discount just to get rid. What I do hope Hornby does is to produce more variants as there are plenty to chose from. They are producing no 883 later this year and hopefully more varients next year now they know that the Peckett is popular.

P.S. Though Peckett 883 is showing as pre-order allocation sold out on the Hornby website, it is still available for pre-order at Hattons, Kernow and probably other retailers too

I am equally peeved, as Dave Rivers is about the MSC R3428 Peckett. I pre ordered one from Fenwicks Department store, Newcastle upon Tyne last October. Then Hornby announced the concession was closing. Order was then null and  void. I finally received a reply from Hornby to my third email of complaint, directing me to a supplier who could sell me a R3428 for in excess of £140. No hint of apology in the email. Excuse tendered was problems with e mail system, in December . In addition justification for closing the concessions. The order to me was to be the 30th loco for my layout. I saw Pecketts on the port dock estate, as a small boy in the 1950s. My dad was a chief engineer for a shipping company that regularly sailed out of/into Manchester. As a child, I stayed on his ships. This loco was going to be special. Upshot is I bought a R3428 Peckett for £107.81, just pipped someone else  to the post, on ebay. With my 10% concession discount, it should have been c£75, from Fenwicks. Ive pre ordered another Peckett due out in October. I'm going to sell it on ebay at a profit and recoup my loss. Ive also expressed my views on an Amazon review for the R3428 and Hornby as a company.

Hi All, Thanks for all the info, I did not know until recently that these models where being made so that is why I did not pre-order I have ordered a Peckett 0-4-0ST '883' Lilleshall Co. from rails so at least I shall have a Peckett loco sometime soon.

Regards Dave :)

I understand lots of people pre order and that is great, but what about kids or people that have to save a long time before they can buy another train ? do they always need to miss out ? if its not limited edtion why cant they make a few more.

if your trying to  grow your followers its not the people that rush and get the preorders in its the people that are just starting out that help to keep a company heathy,

I just think  not everyone can afford to pre order
