Airfix 1/72 EE Lightning F2A New Tool

Pretty Mediocre Modeller

Recommended Posts

Another one from the loft box.

I built this when it first came out two or three years ago. Not much to say about the build, apart from the fit is as good as any other Airfix new tool, and the panel lines are nicely engraved, not like some of the earlier new tools. Basically had no problems.

A nice touch was the inclusion of an intake blank for the nose, even though full intake trunking is supplied.

Options included open or closed canopy, and raised or lowered flaps, as well as the usual gear up or down.

Decals were from Cartograf and as usual no problems with these.

If you want a later style Lightning go for this kit. It's cheaper and more accurate than the Trumpeter kit, and much more detailed than the old Matchbox or Frog/Hasegawa kits. I haven't tried the F6 version yet, but I'm sure it will be just as good as the F2A.

Hi PMM

You have been rummaging around in the atic. Good to see some older builds again. I often wonder just how many fine builds there are hidden in boxes in the atics.   Thanks for showing this one and hopefully it'll also see some more daylight together with the F111 you've also posted. well done.

Keep up the good work & keep them coming.

Lovely build as usual from you.

And if you haven't got the F.6 version yet it's every bit as good, as it's really the same tooling with some additional parts such as the over wing tanks and the option to fit the ventral tank cannon pods. If memory serves me right it also has both Fire Streak and Red Top missile options.

I did both last year and can definitely recommend it

A nice piece of work. My son and I have built both of these (he built the F2A while I did the F6). These are really nice to build, though care is needed with some of the decals (I managed to lose the 3 stripe on the tank).

Brilliant to see this icon well presented. Just need a camouflage option to goalong with an RAF version of the imminent Phantom.
