Hornby on H0 layout?

Probably....the gauge is the same i.e 16.5mm. The same question has been asked before recently. The general forum consensus was that there would be no technical issues. Bear in mind that 00 models will look slightly larger than your current H0 models.

Quality is generally good, but being made in China means a few rouge one's slip through QC regardless of maker and then there's the class 31 mazak rot where lots of early super detail class 31's started turning to dust due to impurities in the Chinese metal. You find the odd model that comes into the shop with bits in the box, all that fally off detailing is far too fragile to stand much rattling in transit or the rigours of everyday useage. The motors on today's locos are also the non-servicable cheapo can type.  Oh for a return to Margate days where models were checked thoroughly three times before packing.

I don't blame the manufacturers, the model press are largely to blame, they started a big push for extra detailing in the 1990's and convinced modellers they needed every little bit of detail and tiny micro size rivets in exact places. The manufacturers simply supplied what people asked for after reading reviews in the magazines, the model press are still pushing for even greater detailing. Meeting those demands meant a move to Chinese production to keep costs and prices down.

OO models will run fine on HO, but will be larger, OO is an inaccurate scale and most mainstream track has an inaccurate track gauge of 16.5mm more HO track than OO in size.
