that_guy_who_likes_trains
I'm thinking about getting a Diesel Loco for my Loco collection which currently consists of a Flying Scotsman, 9F (both tender driven replacing soon), A1X Terrier and a 0-4-0 GWR Tank Engine. I want a Diesel that can pull both Passenger and Freight trains and is overall a good looking engine for any train lover. I'm not looking for an electric diesel like the Virign Pendolino or the Eurostar, just a diesel loco that back in the day could be used for mixed traffic work. Any recommendations anyone? Bulver
I would suggest a BR Type 2, also known as class 24 would fit the bill. These Sulzer-engined locos were used extensively for both passenger and freight work. I believe that they were one of the early diesel locos designed for and, possibly, by, BR when it was decide to switch from steam to alternative methods of propulsion. Currently, I think the only model available is produced by a small specialist supplier in Northampton. It is a beautiful model, but expensive! Will check to see if Hornby did anything similar (class 25 comes to mind)...I'll be back!!Rod
Bulver
Yes, Hornby produced the BR class 25, which was an updated version of the class 24, and presumably ran the same train types. Lots on that auction site at not too bad pricesRod
