Murdoch

Yes. Murdoch is very rare. He is my favourite Thomas engine that Hornby have realesd. I bought mine for £74.00 at Hatton's, in 2011. I'm glad I did. Now you have to pay over £400.00.seems with it though, with the amount of people who want a Hornby Murdoch.

Hornby Spencer and Murdoch are the rarest, Murdoch coming first, Spencer second.

In 2011/2012, Murdoch and James were the only engines I needed left to complete my 22 engine collection, shame I won't be able to complete it now, here's to hoping Hornby reintroduce Murdoch so I can pick one up, and people who have paid over £400 (one went for £460 today!) would feel a bit silly :P

How can you not have a James. He is part of the Steam Team. You must have one by now?

I have my complete 22 set. I own more than 22 actually, because I own Bachmann Donald, Douglas, Mavis, Salty and Skarloey. I will be buying Rosie, Paxton, Rheneas and Rusty as well, when they get released.

Maybe. However the orginal R9257 Spencer was discontinued the same year as Oliver, however, Oliver was in production for a longer period of time than Spencer. I would Spencer is 100% more rare than Oliver.

Wait a minute! I totally forgot about Flying Scotsman (Thomas) I think he is more rare than Spencer, so is Bear. I don't know now! I am confusing myself. So many rare locomotives and rolling stock in the Hornby Thomas & Friends range.

Hi, You could continplate doing what I did and expand the collection beyond 22.That is possible as there are UK and China, versions of Gordon, Percy,James,Duck and Devious Diesel. There are clockwork and electric versions of Thomas, Percy, Bill, Ben and Toby.

Also Thomas 4 wheel versions come in Clockwork,Push along and Electric.Thomas 6 wheel available in Clockwork and electric.Very rare items are Clockwork Bill and C/W Toby. Both only produced 1999 and only available on a card.

You could expand your collection farther than that to, by buying the Bachmann USA Thomas & Friends HO Donald, Douglas, Mavis, Salty and Rosie and Paxton, when they get released.

You could also get Skarloey from the Narrow Gauge range and Rheneas and Rusty when they get released, but they are OO-9 Gauge models.

But Spencer had a second limited edition run of 1000 models (alongside Stepney) which increases the supply somewhat.  Bear and The Diesel are definitely also on the rarer end of the scale though.

Hi, I mostly collect Hornby, only exception have 2 or 3 Bachman A4s.As I said in early comment , Clockwork Bill and Toby are in my opinion the rarest of the Hornby Thomas Locos.Only produced and in catalogue for 1 year only available on a card and not boxed, not in any sets. They may not be the most desirable, but I believe they are the rarest.A quick Google will prove how illusive they are.I have a uncarded Toby but as yet not been able to secure a  clockwork Bill loco.

Thank you for cleaing that up for me, RDS. I know it is essential it gets done, but is there anything wrong with a image getitng posted immediatley when the user hits the 'Reply' button and then somebody can delete the image if it in apporiate?

Surely this would be easier to do? The Admin team must ahve hundreds of pictures posted daily to check and to approve, or to decline.
