TheRailwayDream
I'm not sure what to do. I'm not very experienced with hornby. I have just finished laying the track for the track pack layout and when I run my Tornado Pullman it runs perfectly across the layout until I switch the points, the locomotive and coaches normally run over nicely, however, the tender always manages to derail every time. I've checked the track is flat and it is as well as readjusting the wheel back to back to 14.5 mm. Even after doing this the tender always derails at points. I just don't know what to do. This is a picture of one of the points I have.http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/uploads/monthly_06_2011/post-107-0-95632400-1308602380_thumb.jpg
trainlover23
Replace them with more modern points those must be at least twnty years old and are the old steel ones
2e0dtoeric
Looking at the condition of those points, I'd agree with trainlover. They are well past their sell-by date! What is probably happening is that as the locomotive runs over the rusty bits, the power is being momentarily broken, the motor stops then starts again, making a jerk and snatch action to the train behind, which drags the (very light) tender across the curve, rather than round it.This will not be doing the motor and gears any good, either. LCDR
It may also be that the finer profile wheel flanges are trying to go the wrong side of the crossing nose. The older points are made with wider clearances between the wing rail and crossing nose. (the pointy bit where the routes cross) This may also give you the opposite problem if you do replace the points and are still running older stock with narrower back to back clearances..
