You need to decide whether you want to control the points by manual switch or with a Point Decoder. If you only have the Select then I would be tempted not to use a decoder as there has been a lot of discussion on here about doing this.

If however,

you plan on expanding your system and have the Elite then operating the points via a decoder id very easy. But make sure you purchase the R8247 decoder not the R8216.

Hi
If you want to operate your points by DCC then you will need an R8247 or R8216 accessory decoder. Each decoder is made to operate four point motors. Its power and data being taken from the DCC powered rails or a DCC bus if you have one.

However,

you can operate your point motors by 'Analogue' means using for example the Hornby R044 Black point passing contact lever.
To do this you need to use the 15 volts Aux. output. Connect one wire from one 'Aux 15v dc'. terminal to the lower central connection

on the R044. The two wires - Red & Green, connect from the front of the R044 out to the motor. The motors Black wire is connected to the Selects other Aux. 15 volt dc terminal. If you need to extend these wires use 16/0.2mm wire.
Unfortunately, due to the

high power requirements of the point motor and your Select providing just 1.0Amp you may find that when the point motor is operated the Select stops working!! There are two way of overcoming this.....
1) Is to upgrade the Selects Power Unit to the 4.0Amp

one - C7024
or
2) Use a totally separate Power supply (Which is really the best option) rated at 16 volts AC 1.0Amp or a higher Amp. output.

Happy Christmas.
