PC Failure, reinstall needed

Recommended Posts

Mike, you need a working installation of RM before you can self de-register. This, of course, is not possible if your Vista RM PC will not boot up.

.

On the 28th March 2017 (not that long ago) you posted that you had a PC failure and you transferred RM from that PC to your current Vista Laptop that has just failed (you don't seem to be having much luck with your choice of PCs). In that post (click here) you stated and I quote:

.

.....and have got confirmation from Hornby that my security code has been transferred.

.

So whatever process you followed to get the activation key transferred before, you will need to follow that process again. It usually involves writing an email to HRMS and explaining the situation and requesting a RM Key Code deactivation. You will need to include in that mail.

.

Your name.

Your Address.

Your RM Key Code number.

And probably the email account address that you used when you first registered your copy of RM.

.

HRMS's email address is support@rail-master.com

.

If you can connect the hard drive from the failed Vista PC to your replacement PC via a USB caddy. You might be able to retrieve the files specified on page 132 of the RM manual and copy them into the RM folder on the replacement PC. This will restore your track plan and loco roster configuration.

.

Note also, that as a Vista user. If you put RM on a Windows 10 PC you will need to install the eLink USB driver from Microsoft and not the Hornby provided drivers. I know from previous posts of yours that driver installation has given you problems in the past. This previous topic thread below gives guidance on installing the eLink driver in Windows 10.

You will probably have to modify (or at least check that they are present) your 'railmaster.ini file' for the entries needed by your eLink on a Windows 10 PC machine. The entries required are documented in the sticky post at the top of the RailMaster subforum, titled "RailMaster, Setting Up and Getting Started". Look for the "RailMaster & Windows 10", last post on the page.

.

Do remember that when running the RM installer downloaded from this site on your Windows 10 PC machine. To 'right click' the installer file and choose "Run as Administrator".
