Converting to a drift car

Hi, my son has a digital bugatti veyron and he wants to convert it to a drift car. Is this possible? Does he just need to buy the drift blade or does he need to buy a whole new car that is a drift car version?

If it is just the new blade needed is this a simple conversion or does it involve soldering wires back on etc?

Cheers

Hi Dazza. Scalextric produced a few of their Super Resistant models with a 360-degree drift mechanism. These cars had a different chassis that takes the drift guide. To use them on a digital track, they require some modifications (the removal of a diode board between the guide and motor) and a C7005 retro fit chip soldered in. Some of the drift models included the Nissan 350Z (PowerSlide set), Nissan GT-R (Drift Kings set), Porsche 997 (Porsche PowerSlide set), Lamboghini Gallardo (Street Pursuit set) and - I think - a Ferrari 430 or two? The sets are great as they come with full borders around the whole of the track.

With your Bugattis, it's not possible to simply replace the standard guide with a drift guide. Neither is there a drift chassis. An option to get a drift feel (but not the 360-degree action) is to to take the traction magnet out of the car so the back will step out round the corners. A little weight (maybe 5 grams) inside the chassis near the guide should help prevent the car from de-slotting. It might be worth experimenting - it certainly will help your son learn some expert car control!

Hope that helps.
