chris_baker2
Hi, i'm about to try and convert this old loco. I've attached a picutre of the motor as I'm unsure whether this motor is suitable to be converted. I heard some ringfield motors are easier than others.ThanksChris./media/tinymce_upload/f14d0799edf96756151cd52d8f48fb22.jpg
Fishmanoz
Yes Chris, some are easier than others. Go to Brian Lambert’s DCC pages via google and he gives instructions for converting all 3 types.
chris_baker2
Hi Fish, Thanks for that, I've had a good read of that, and can't work out which of the 3 types I have. Does any know from the picture?ThanksChris.
Fishmanoz
Have you done the test he specifies to determine if there is a connection between brush connector and chassis? That’s how you determine whether you have Type 1 or 2. Then yours doesn’t look like his photos, yours probably older. But you must do the test and if there is a connection, it must be removed or insulated as appropriate. Once that is done, conversion is very simple - discard any components, pickup connections go to decoder red and black and brush connection to decoder orange and grey.
