Goosey 64
Hi. Can anyone confirm that you do or do not need to fit insulating fishplates to hornby points when useing dcc?
Chrissaf
Insulfrog points (Hornby only do Insulfrog points) do not require additional insulated rail joiners (IRJ) on the frog rails. It is usually only Electrofrog points i.e. PECO brand that need additional IRJs..There is one exception however. When you are using two Hornby points to create a cross-over from one oval to another oval and both ovals have an individual DC Analogue controller, then it is beneficial to insert IRJs on the point rails that face each other, such that the two track ovals are electrically isolated. But this is not applicable to a layout using DCC control, I only mention it for completeness of information..When using Hornby points with DCC, it is normal to fit R8232 digital point clips to the points to circumnavigate the inbuilt point frog insulation. In DCC, it is beneficial to make all rails permanently live. This is the function of the R8232 clips..Download and read Chapters 5 and 6 of my Track Extension Pack document.https://www.hornby.com/uk-en/forum/track-extension-pack-guide/?p=1.
