DCC Buzzing?

Hello all!

I have just bought a Digital GWR Western Pullman set.

Its all very lovely, but I was a bit taken aback by the buzzing noise the select unit makes. Its not very loud, but noticeable. Also, when I but one of the digital trains on

the track, that makes a buzzing/hissing noise as well. Again its not very loud, but noticeable until the train starts moving. I'm just using the track that came with the set.

I just wanted to know if this is the normal noise it makes, or if there is

something funny with my set.

My elite emits a slight buzzing noise as well, its noticable in a quite environment, i.e. no back ground noise. I suspect its the power supply switching as part of any internal DC conversion going on. My units been happily functioning for approx 3 years

without issue or change to the background noise. So if yours is nothing more than a quite buzz I wouldn;t be to concerned, you could check with your supplier if concerned and test another unit.

The only thing I would check would be your connections

from the output terminals to confirm that they connect bare metal to bare metal otherwise if any insulation is between the contact surfaces then it might could some heating/arching.

Hope this helps.

Hello there, I have the GWR western pullman set too, I believe this is due to an old Hornby decoder being fitted to this set. Newer hornby decoders, and newer digital sets do not seem to have this problem. The buzzing sound is particularly noticeable on

the Castle class.

Thank You, puts my mind at ease, thought something was wrong with the loco! I'll think about putting a new chip in it if possible, but in no rush! Thanks for the replies.
