woodcote
Hi Eddie - From the look of the Scalextric Collectors Guide website, the set 31 is from 1966-67 and came with the little Porsche and BRM F1 cars plus a figure-of-eight track. I have a 1960s transformer from my dad's original set. It is now a museum piece - I prefer to use modern transformers! If you want to risk an old 1960s transformer, you can find them on eBay, but it would be a good idea to have it thoroughly checked out by a competent electrician before using. For a modern solution, probably the easiest plug & play option is to fit a new all-in-one powerbase with a new power supply and controllers. Your set 31 uses the Scalextric 'Classic' track system wihich is different to the current 'Sport' track. You have two options - either buy a modern analogue powerbase (for example, C8217, C8530, C8545 etc) with a 'Sport' to 'Classic' adapter (C8222) at each end, or find a 'Classic' powerbase (eg C8014) from a 1990s set. There are plenty on eBay. Hope that helps.
