GrahamWass Posted February 1, 2012 Share Posted February 1, 2012 As the title sugests I am wanting to replace the origional early hornby decoder with a sound decoder but looking at the motor it has what apoears to be resistors or the like wired into it . they are covered in a red sleeve so dificult to see what they are. First what are they Second should I remove them before fitting none hornby decoder. Third will I get a slapped wrist for not fitting Hornby decoder. But I want soundThanks GrahamPresumably the fitted decoder is in a socket, in which case it depends whether its 21 pin or 8 pin.In either case the sound decoder will simply be a direct replacement with no other alterations neccessary.if its 8 pin there will be 2 extra wires for the speakerIn the case of 21 pin there will be no extra wires, but in modern locos the pcb usally has terminals for speaker.hope this helps.
