Have you turned the sound on?

Usually you need to send an F1 command to turn on the sound. If you have sent an F1 command, then what about the 'spot sounds'....whistles and horns etc. Have you sent the appropriate F commands to play those too.

If your answer is yes to all the above.......then have you checked that the speaker is connected and working. Ideally you need an audio source to check the speaker. For example a 3.5mm headphone lead plugged into a radio or similar etc. Then the lead at the other end cut and the wires extracted to touch on the speaker terminals. Some use a more drastic measure [that personally I don't recommend] which is to touch a 1.5V AAA battery cell across the speaker and listen for a loud click [the battery wire should only be flicked across the speaker terminals and not held on else you risk burning out the speaker coil]. The battery test MUST be done with the speaker disconnected from the decoder, and preferably disconnected for the preferred audio test as well.
