StephenHughes Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 Hi everyone.I have set up a new layout this weekend with my little boy and need to test the track before modelling the terrain around it.I really have no idea with the power inputs go as I am completely new to train sets. We have some bits of track with power connectors on and some little things that slide in the holes under the track but i'm not sure what to do with them.We also have three controllers. The idea was to be able to run two trains at the same time.I have some pictures of my layout here but don't seem to be able to insert them in this thread. If anyone can help I will email the picture for you to look at.I am really grateful for any help that you can offer.Thankyou
Rog RJ Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 You need to post pictures on a photo hosting site such as imageshack, photobucket or flickr. You can then post a link to the photos.-

StephenHughes Posted June 20, 2011 Author Posted June 20, 2011 Thankyou for that information.I've just done thathttp://img803.imageshack.us/img803/7676/004zj.jpg
FinnerZ Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 In my opinion, the best place to put one set of wires from a contoller is to the power track on the inside loop on the left hand side of the picture. For the outside loop, I would suggest a power clip somewhere on the curve at the bottom of the picture - this means that by switching the curved point on the bottom left and the points nearest the right just before the level crossings you can run trains around the outer part of the loop while the train on the other section (second line in from the top of the picture) will remain still. I may be wrong but I would also suggest using isolated fishplates in between the two crossover points on the left to ensure that the controllers' power feeds will not combine. I hope this helps.
StephenHughes Posted June 20, 2011 Author Posted June 20, 2011 Thanks FinnerZ.Does the power clip just clip in between the two bottom curves? Does it matter what side of the tracks the clips enter? Sorry to bother you with what probably sound like pretty stupid questions. Will I be able to use 2 controllers to power 2 different engines at the same time using your method? Thanks
FinnerZ Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 Glad to help. Yes, put the clip somewhere with the little slots in the cuves at the bottom of the image. It doesn't matter which way round the clip goes in, it's just whatever's easiest for you. If your locos start going the wrong way round the loop, just take the plug/wires out of the clip and swap them round. This will let you control one engine on the outside loop with one controller, and another engine on the inner loop with another controller.
StephenHughes Posted June 20, 2011 Author Posted June 20, 2011 You're a star, thankyou.I'll let you know how we get on
poliss Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 You have to put the power clips in the same way or it will cause a short circuit.
poliss Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 See Brian Lamberts website for lots of information about wiring the layout.http://www.brian-lambert.co.uk/Electrical.htm
Rog RJ Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 You can put the power clips in either way round but you may then have to reverse the wiring to one of them, either to prevent a short circuit when passing from one track loop to the next or if the trains run the opposite way to what you want them to.-
