Pnosferatu
Hi,having followed the guide to convert a loco with a x.03 motor, ive got everything in place and can read the cvs on railmaster but... if i try to run the loco it won't move at all. If i squeeze the motor brushes with my fingers towards the motor it runs constantly in reverse and wont respond to any commands.... any thoughts on what I've done wrong? Also it occasionally shorts out. Its quite frustrating
Chrissaf
Just for clarity, the guide Pnosferatu refers to is M.R's DCC conversion guide published on this forum. This thread is a continued variation of the thread Pnosferatu previously started regarding a different loco. Which can be viewed here:https://www.hornby.com/uk-en/forum/converting-r8505-to-dcc/?p=1. Fishmanoz
X03 conversion is essentially the same as MR’s X04 guide where you put an insulating sleeve on the other side of the brush holding spring and connect orange and grey wires to the brushes via connectors. First question - how did this loco run on DC before conversion, any problems? Given what you say about it behaving with pressure on the brushes, it sounds as if they are not seating properly after conversion. Have you looked to see if the retaining spring is exerting pressure on them to seat them? Are the carbon pads in good condition and seated properly or do they need replacement? Have you cleaned out the slots in the armature the brushes are seated on?
Chrissaf
PnosferatuThis is M.R's follow up X.03 / X.04 DCC conversion guide with images.......you can use this to confirm that you have correctly followed M.R's original linked guide that was all text instruction..https://www.hornby.com/uk-en/forum/post/view/topic_id/24262/?p=
Pnosferatu
Thanks. I sorted it at 1am. Turns out the insulation i had fitted wasnt the right size and the brushes weren't in the correct place. It now runs perfectly. Many thanks
