Speed CV

CVs are in the main specific to the decoder brand / model.....some are common across different brands....but not all. You haven't told us what brand / model of decoder is fitted so it is near impossible to say unless you provide that missing information.

.

Take the Hornby R8249 decoder for example. This decoder is very basic and the number of supported CVs is very limited. CV3 deals with Acceleration and CV4 deals Deceleration, but there are no CVs in the R8249 dealing with motor speed.

.

Other info that can be useful is:

.

  • What DCC controller are you using?
  • Are you using Hornby brand track?
  • Is the Stop / Starting at any random location on the track or at specific locations (where)?

.

Stopping and starting is very unlikely to be anything to do with any CV. Class 08 shunters are notorious for intermittent electrical pickup issues. Which is more than likely to be the source of your reported problem. That and/or track condition. DCC is extremely sensitive to track rail dirt & grime and needs spotlessly clean rails & loco wheels to be reliable.

.

Have a read of TIP number 8 in this TIP list.

https://www.hornby.com/uk-en/forum/tips-on-using-the-forum/

.

A video (see TIP 8 comment above) will help to quantify what you mean by "only creeps along". Class 08 locos under DCC control do tend to creep along to a certain extent (unlike the DC Analogue versions), particularly if using Hornby RailMaster control software with 'scale speeds' enabled. Your creepage, might be considered completely normal by some. A video (posted via YouTube link) would really help to make an assessment.

Please can anyone identify which cv deals with the speed of a dcc loco.

I have a class 8 shunter which only creeps along and then stop starts and I want to check the setting.

Thanks

Class 08's DO creep along! They aren't racing cars or express engines! They were low-geared, to develop the torque needed. Class 09's are a bit faster, maybe 20 mph flat out.

The stop-start you report could be dirty track, dirty wheels, or a bad electrical supply to that piece of track. Are you using a DCC BUS, or a plug-in power rail, and fishplates, etc, to conduct the power?

What controller are you using?

What decoder are you using?

What R number is your 08?
