Chrissaf
This model is '8 Pin DCC Ready' which means that it has an 8 Pin DCC Socket inside it. If still as factory built, then the socket will have a 'blanking plug' in it. This plug is removed and any decoder with an 8 pin connector will fit straight in..On the R3443, the decoder (and sound speaker if that option is chosen) goes in the Tender. There is a four wire 'plug and socket' that connects the Tender to the Loco where the motor is located. The wires on this four wire plug are very delicate. I strongly suggest you obtain the X6468 plug extraction tool to use when unplugging the Loco from the Tender. From the Hornby product portfolio that would be the R8249 four function decoder which is fairly basic and lacks any significant customisation capability.ORA TTS sound decoder R8106 which is based upon the basic R8249 but has sound as well.ORAny quality brand of decoder that has the 8 Pin NEM 652 plug on it. Personally I would avoid the cheap Hattons and GM 'own brand' decoders as they come up a lot on this forum with issues..TIP: As this is your very first post, just be aware that the 'Blue Button with the White Arrow' is not a 'Reply to this post' button.
