DCC to DC

Yesterday, I inherited a BR B17/6 "Grimsby Town" No.61650 from my Grandfather. It's a DCC Fitted version and as far as I can tell, never been used. I cannot get it to run. Now, I know that it's not recommended to run DCC on regular DC, but it should at least run. I opened the tender to inspect the DCC chip and noticed a Purple wire that wasn't connected at all. I don't know if this was my grandfather trying to fix it as he doesn't understand DCC, a factory error. I would like advice on this, thank you :)

The purple wire is for auxillary use so you can ignore it, The DCC chip is probably set to dissable DC running, So either remove it and fit a blanking plate or if you know someone with a DCC layout ask them to enable DC running.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with running DCC on DC. It's the other way round that is not a good idea. Perhaps DC running has been disabled. I believe the purple wire is often not used.

If not used the purple wired should be capped against shorting In any case.

The purple wire is a function output, I use it sometimes for smokebox glow or cab lights. Yes, it has to insulated, I found from other users nail varnish works well.
