96RAF
Do you have DC running turned on i.e. will the motor run if you apply a PP3 9volt battery to the wheels. If so you need to turn it off in CV29 but you can only do this if your Select is at firmware v1.6 or higher. Watch the screen at startup for xx thrn 30 then 03. xx needs to be 16.
ColinB
The first thing to do is to figure out if there is something wrong with the decoder. If it is easy, take the decoder out of the GWR HST and try it in the class 47. If it works in the class 47, then there is something wrong with the GWR HST. What you can also do if you have a multimeter is check the resistance between the pins on the 8 pin connector in the GWR HST. THey should all read high resistance except between pins 1 and 5. Whatever you do don't try the class 47 decoder in the GWR HST, just in case it is damaging them. Other than wrong wiring of the 8 pin socket, the only other thing I can think of is the capacitor across the motor causing issues. I have had "run away" with some LaisDCC modules with bad track (sometimes the loco even goes backwards), but Hornby ones are usually ok. I fitted the HST TTS decoder to my ringfield based HST with no issues, generally if it is dirty track the decoder sound usually just keeps resetting. Andy 333
Thank you for replies and suggestions The train does not run when connected to dc supply i think decoder ok as I bought pair (unfortunatly dummy car not got DCC plug) I have tried second decoder same thing happens.I think I may wait post virus and get it checked out by local DCC specialist. My select controller is good 5 years old I bought secondhand so this may need upgrade to new one which may help.
Fishmanoz
A couple of things that might help Andy: First, is it possible you have a DC power track or power connector between the Select and the track. Check them by flipping open the black housing and see if there is a component (capacitor) in there. If so remove, and make sure you remove any and all. These distort the DCC signal giving weird effects and sometimes only on particular decoders. You should definitely get your Select firmware upgraded to v1.6 so you can change CVs. Ring Customer Care to get details. When you get it back, try changing the motor algorithm CV150 from 0 to 1 and see if that improves things.
