Benatkinsonuk
Hi, due to lockdown I've got back into modelling and I must say it's been superb fun. And the bug has bitten me! So apologies if this isn't in the right place. I have read the forum a bit and can't find an exact answer.I will be painting the model with acrylics, then glossing with humbrol clear, decaling with decal fix, then I had hoped to use acrylic Matt spray varnish. Though I have read some issues with this? I tested on an old model today and it worked on the (enamel) paint, but pitted some decals (I hadn't used a decal fixer back then!). Should I continue with my plan or use a different Matt varnish? I do have a bottle of Matt coat I could use or buy something else? Thanks again , Ben
Mtchllro
Personally I gloss over decals when they are fixed in place to seal in decals and then use a Matt varnish over that.I use pledge multisurface wax (formally Future) both under and over decals

peebeep
Decals work best on a glossy surface, although if you look up the Decalfix video on Youtube decaling onto a matt surface is demonstrated. Personally I prefer to gloss before decaling, because it's always worked for me and I know it should eliminate any chance of silvering. I have a theory about the aerosol varnishes that involve a hot solvent in the propellant. I may well be wrong, but if I'm not it would explain a lot of the problems people have with them.
