Chrissaf
The meter will come with written instructions. Read the section on measuring resistance..For me, I would wire directly to the point motor. For you, it might be more prudent to shorten the factory wires to just a few inches, then join and extend with your thicker wires. Use heat shrink sleeving to insulate the soldered joint
Injury20
Thanks Crissaf, So, I've swapped the wires round in the decoder and its still the same only switching one way. Checked the resistance with my meter and both motors giving out the same reading. So I have slowly un pinned enough track around my points to remove them (i'm glad I did these checks before soldering the droppers), taken off the motor and tested it and it works fine. Soon as i connect back to the point we are back to only working in one direction ahhhhhhhhh
Injury20
I have opened up another decoder and programmed in, connected another new motor and it also works fine, soon as i connect to the point, back to one way switching.. must be the point So i try both point motors on a different point, exactly the same issue. Are hornby points known for being very sticky?? with a very small screwdriver i have pushed back the two silver retaining catches on the point and tried again. WOOHOO it now works both directions, but before i put my track back together, with pushing these two retainers back could it cause the point to float between directions and derail trains?? Thanks again all
troff160
hi, I have just bought an R8014 to go with one of my R 641 points however I noticed it had no mounting holes in the point and it said the point motor only worked with modern slide bar points but I fixed that by detaching the Manuel way. I will attach the point moter to the point anyways but was just wondering if there were any good ways of attacking it to a point without holdings.thanks

ColinB
I know it is a Hornby Forum but have you considered the Peco PL10W, it is the same physical shape as the R8014 but I gather draws less current so might be an easier load for DCC. I use them in my layout.
troff160
I do actually have some for my peco points but I noticed the mounting holes were wider apart than the peco point or the other way around cant remember.
