Trains trains trains
Hello, I recently purchassed Triang R355 Nellie. After a good service and clean, the locomotive will run however, when I got it running, it wobbled and shortly followed the connecting rods on one side went diagonal, therefore couldn't run any more. After I looked at the wheels it looks like they weren't factory quartered propably as they are not off set by 90 degrees. Any help would be appreciated. Stubaggieboy
There are insulated plastic bushes on one side of the axles the side where the pick up wipers are that have either split or worn and will require replacing. I purchased some of these bushes a while back from Ebay so they are probably still available. Then obviously you will need to quarter the wheels correctly. Hope this helps. Regards Stu. Ruffnut Thorston
There are two sizes of the plastic wheel bush. The later version S.8397 is smaller, as the axles are of a smaller diameter where they are inside the wheels. /media/tinymce_upload/735282864fdcfbe49c7927ded87fd2a7.jpgThe rest of the later axles is if the same diameter as the earlier axles.S.5065 will likely be the correct size for the R.355 locos. /media/tinymce_upload/bd3bbb829790e2f6eb5af70b5ea87600.jpg/media/tinymce_upload/629978660caa16f0e8fb238ffe0956f8.jpg http://www.hornbyguide.com/item_details.asp?itemid=
Rana Temporia
The wheel bushes are available from Peter's spares (and off them on eBay) as one of their new manufactured parts. Also to check, if yours is one of the later models with a black plastic cog they tend to come loose on the axle. I have replaced mine with brass cogs from scrap locos. Another issue with this loco is that the tyres occasionally come off the wheel hubs easily.
