Modelnut19
I am fortunate to have more than one J94. However, they do not tend to get run that often. Today I tried my bought from new R2855 and it was extremely reluctant to run. My other one ran fine straight out of the box.I tried running it for a short while but was put off by how slowly it was running (they are low geared anyway). It also seemed to be limping a bit running in one direction. I feared major problems were afoot.I therefore took the body off: not that easy unless you have the instructions. Running it "light" showed some signs of improved running. Despite there apparently being signs of some oil on the gears, I decided a very little more might help.Quite soon it was running much better. Now with the body back on it is running much smoother and using much less current. Hurray!I was pleasantly surprised at how such improved running was achieved despite my worst fears. atom3624
It's amazing how much dust, fluff, lubricant or generally light corrosion can occur, which gentle running can ease. Don't forget that light oil over time, and also depending on where the item is stored can be 'volatile' - slow dissipation to atmosphere making 'bearing surfaces' dry - so a little dab of light oil may be required. I have seen - on a Bachmann Jinty no less - another with poor running qualities, and that it had bent contacts, thus giving poor current collection.Once relocated and shaped correctly it has run perfectly ever since ... Each locomotive has a specific design which gives common areas to examine, and also, conversely each can have it's own individual 'problem'. A couple of thoughts and ideas / observations. Al. NovaScotia
After 1/2 hr on a Baccus stationary track, I tried my J94 on the layout and it did not move.. It does not budge when power is applied directly to the wheels. Very odd for a brand new model!Any helps would be much appreciated ~ many thanks, Chris
