1:72nd Scale DHC-2 Beaver

Recommended Posts

This is my current build which is also on the ATF. Its the old 1970's tooling and from the Humbrol Blue Print release in the dark green plastic rather than the original white sprue. Due to age the decals are yellowed and probably not serviceable so my spare sheets will come in handy.

As usual work started on the cockpit, dealing with the poor positioning of the original pilots seats. These were moved forward. The seats are generally good but otherwise the cockpit is bare, so I added some ribs and PE seatbelts.

With the cockpit done I moved onto assembling the airframe and a couple of attempts at dealing with seam lines and sink holes before a coat of primer went on.

I again tried some pre-shading before the BS Dark Earth was added all over as this will be finished as the Army Cooperation aircraft.

Hopefully another update will follow soon!

Glad you've kept the rivets, they add some interest to an otherwise odd characterless model.  I'm following this with interest because my one is part of the loft insulation.  According to a recent AMW some new decals  covering Army Air Corps have come on the market.

Thanks Tweezers, and didn't want to remove all the rivets either as I can't do re-scribbing of panel lines. And those new decals aren't on the market yet as I couldn't find any when I needed to replace the aged kit decals.

Anyway I'll post the latest images next. The engine and cowling have been done and I've tried some paint chipping to give a worn airframe. The pitot tubes and ariels have been fitted ready for a final coat of Klear before the Matt Cote.

Lovely job so far. And don't be concerned about the rivets, I've worked around enough real ones to know that they're covered in them. This might be one of the few kits on the market in which the rivets are underscale!  😛

@PB.

Yes Paul when I was researching this build I found that review by Mike Grant and he did a superb job sanding down the raised detail and scribbling the panel lines. And a lovely smooth paint finish too. Beyond me so I stayed with the rivets!

Thanks Chris. The masking is off now so you can still see a little of the interior. I've still got a couple of figures and some baggage to do then the Beaver will be just about ready for display!

@ The Rat

Thanks. I'm not too worried about the rivets as they add character, as I wouldn't want a totally smooth airframe. These old kits are not as good as the new tool products, but they do have their own charm and appeal!

  • 4 weeks later...

Hi. This is nearly the final update for the Beaver. I did get the airframe finished a couple of weeks ago but I have been concentrating on my Hampden build which ended up consuming all my time lol.

But here are the images of the DHC-2 Beaver!

I did have a couple of figures and bits of stores to go with the aircraft but I'll have to see if I can get the time to finish them with other builds taking priority.

But for now I hope you like what I have done with the old Beaver kit and my 1 or 2 small improvements?
