Help [A source for Nellie nameplates]

There was someone selling printed panels on a well known internet auction site that you could use on these locos with the correct lining and nameplates but he seems to have stopped trading. I made some for Polly a while back by finding a suitable font on the computer and printing off in red on some yellow card. I can't remember what the font was but it shouldn't be too difficult to find a suitable one. There are probably some good pictures available on the internet of a close up of one of the nameplates. The one I used for an example was in the Tri-ang Hornby book of trains.

The most difficult bit will be getting the text the correct size, from memory it's quite a squat serif style. I printed a number off of varying sizes plus some extra names that Tri-ang never used for my spare locos. If you want red nameplates for Connie (did Nellie have red too?) they would have to be yellow ink on red card.

As most of these locos have at least one nameplate missing there is probably a market for Nellie, Polly and Connie nameplates in the correct style but a bit more durable than the paper originals.

I have printed my own using self adhesive envelope labels. I print a number of copies. A simple drawing package application ought to be sufficient. I use Microsoft Visio which is somewhat overkill for this, but I do use it for much more than that, but there will be cheap/free software if you search for it.

For yellow lettering on red, you would need to print yellow and red onto white.

If the letters are too thin, the red ink bleeds into the yellow on normal paper.

Printing onto photo paper was better, in my experience.

Double sided tape will stick them in place.

You may find that the photo paper can be split, to thin it out...after printing...

The gentleman that makes the Nellie, Polly, et al decal / nameplates can be reached by e-mail at retrodecal@gmail.com

i have purchased quite a few different variations, including Nellie.  All are first rate and cost is reasonable.

He does trade on eBay as a1-retro and currently DOES have Nellie decals, amongst many other interesting ones listed for sale.

Hi Grahammicro7

If the locomotive is in good running order and condition.

It could be worth looking at one of the brass name plate producer's and fitting her with a brass name and number plate as per the Hornby / Triang size and number.

A 1960's super detail job if you like for want of a better description 😆

regards John

@Julian

I don't know who posted the original question asked in this thread but it certainly was not Chrissaf, who has sadly passed away recently. Chrissaf tried to answer the question a few posts down.

Having said all that, the question was asked over 2 years ago now and it is unlikely that the original poster will see your reply.

Also,

It is in your own interest to have a unique user name.

Could you please select ‘My Account’ towards the top right hand corner of your screen, then Community and choose a nickname in the ‘My Profile' tab, rather than your First name that has been automatically allocated by the system. We had hoped a Forum change was coming to prevent this automatic allocation but a manual change is required at the moment and there will be more than one member with your name. This request together with some other information for new posters is contained in a thread at the top of the General Discussion section called ‘Information for new members registering for the Forum’
