Snooker147
I have a Class N2 loco 0-6-2 - R2178A (Service sheet no 239). The motor is absolutely fine but the worm gear is chewed up for some reason (it was running fine on a rolling road but then the wheels stopped with the motor making a whirling sound!). Are replacement worm gears available? If so, from where?
96RAF
Try New Modelers Shophttps://www.newmodellersshop.co.uk/hornby_spares_motors_and_gears.htm Scroll way down the page to see if any thing matches up. Else search on ‘worm‘ at Peters Spares
Snooker147
Thanks for feedback but it's not the gear set I'm after. It's the worm on the motor shaft I need to replace (if possible)
96RAF
That is the same gear set on New Modellers Shop but I don’t see a worm gear there.
Chrissaf
Since the service sheet 239 has a dotted line round the whole motor including the worm gear for the motor part number X4026. I deduce from that, that the worm gear is not orderable on its own as a spare part. It is always possible of course that another worm gear from another loco that is orderable as a part might possibly fit, but that is a long shot. 96RAF
X4026 is a fairly universal motor but NMS does not list the N2 amongst the fits. I should imagine the tooth variation would be on the spur gear set diameter.
