Railroad MK2f bogies

Coachman

Recommended Posts

Hi, Just got some MK2fs today. As I could not get the regular TSOs I got a couple of Railroad TSOs. Fine. I'll change the plastic wheels and paint the springs. On the bogies. The VERY bent bogies?  Regular MK2fs ok? Same bogie?

Anybody else had this problem? I was thinking of aralditing a strip of steel along the underside of the bogie. Stiffening and extra weight.

Are they all like this.

If they are brand new I would send them back for a replacement.they shouldn't be like you describe

if there used maybe you could look for some replacement bogies

I've never seen any Hornby coaches with warped bogies

If I were you I would send them back and get a refund or exchange for the newer MK2s.  These railroad ones are possibly the old Airfix ones on which the bogies and wheels are truely awful.

I have been rewheeling a rake of Virgin Mk2s with Hornby 12.6mm diameter plain wheels and they slop about in the bearinsg so that the ride uneven and is too low.  There is also a lot of friction in the bearings such that it caused one of my heavy Heljan class 47s to stall on a 1:40 bank with just 6 of these coaches!

To improve running I have been fitting top hat bearings in the bogies.  This requires a special tool to drill out the bearing.  The improvement is incredible.

No they are the MK2f new tooling. Sorry no pictures but they should be the same as the full price versions. The full price versions are perfect.

It certainly has warned me off of Railroad MK2s.

The nem sockets were not secure in the bogies either. It's like bad castings.
