Decal has split overnight

Hi,

So I've used decalfix for this decal and I've never had any issues with it before. The rest of the decals look fine and as you can see it was working really well on this one too.

So I let them dry overnight and they looked great. I have then since sprayed the model with a thin layer of Humbrol's Enamel Matt Varnish using the aerosol can version. (The paint is humbrol enamel)

Do we think it is the decalfix or the varnish that has caused this?

As I said earlier, none of the other decals have done this.

Thoughts?

Thanks.

Decalfix is loaded with ammonia, my money would be on that causing the problem. It looks like the old tool Lancaster, if the decals were aged then they would be even more vulnerable. My guess would be that this particular roundel may have already developed hair line cracks in the inks and a combination of the ammonia and shrinkage of the Decalfix has caused what you see. You could try using a solvent to soften the decal and get the damage set back onto the wing surface. Cellulose or thin poly cement might do the trick.
