ColinB
Does anyone know where I can get some really small star washers that hold the pony truck on, on an ringfield motor A1/A3/A4 tender. I have ordered two different ones off EBay (this time supposedly genuine ones) but each time their outside diameter is too big and will not fit in the gap. I tried Peters Spares but was told they don't keep them although they sell the bare Pony Truck. Trouble is most ads don't list the ouside diameter. The internal diameter seems to be 3mm.Thanks. Going Spare
The original washer carried part number S9924 but I think I am correct in remembering that the pantograph washer M1105 may do the job. Unfortunately, both may be difficult to locate now and someone with either loco may be able to measure them to confirm dimensions for a search elsewhere. 96RAF
I found an assorted box of these in our local QD in the ailse where they have O rings, nuts and bolts, etc.
Ruffnut Thorston
The attachment is a pretty poor design, as once the grip washer is on, it's not an easy matter to remove! A pity that a machine screw and captive nut type arrangement wasn't used in the assembly. As the spigot is plastic, it may not be easy to fit a suitable nut instead of the grip washer. ColinB
@Sarahagain It probably a cheap solution, and easy to fit during production. I have seen the same solution for lots of plastic shafts. I did get the old one off without too much trouble, but it has lost its grip when I try to put it back on. I suppose I could drill it out and replace it with a bolt and nyloc nut. Hornby don't make star washers, so they must have got it from somewhere. It is like where I used to work, we had a guy that was responsible for all the nuts and bolts on a car. He just bought them in. Trouble is this all dates back to imperial sizing, so they might not make them anymore. It is a shame I don't work anymore, I could have talked to him, but I suspect that job got Outsourced to Germany.
