Hello everyone. I am new to the forums and model railways in general. I have wanted a model railway since i Was a kid and today I finally got myself the freight master set. what I would really like to know is where do I go from here? i am more interested in the trains and rolling stock than building, trees etc. Thank you all

Hello Kickbackman1277 & Welcome to the Hornby Forum  😀

Well your a bit like me - I have never done a permanent layout - just track - a few buildings & locos & Rolling stock!!! Well to answer your question - the way that you go is your imagination - just add more track, siding, bridges, loops, Locos, rolling stock - then do what I do say after 6 months or a year or when ever - as it sound like you don't want to do a permanent layout - take it the track up & then start all over by doing another layout - I have done many different layout in the last 8 odd yrs or so from just the 1 loop right up to my present layout with 4 loops!!! Just go with it & have fun with it - Just take a some of my layout on my

to be inspired!!!

Then have a look at the Getting Started With... guide in the sticky post at the top of the page in the general discussion section.

It will give you the basics. The other sticky post will also help if you are seeing basic problems.

I would suggest building up slowly - start with your starter set like you have mentioned. Play / run trains with it for a while, and when you feel you could do with something else, maybe look on Hornby's shop / go to your local model railway shop (if it is open, mine is). I did that yesterday and expanded my fleet and track situiation a little more after fiddling with what I already had for a while.

If you want to expand then scratch a scheme out on paper, take a picture and post it on here for folk to throw rocks at, then you will see what is a good idea and what is a bad idea.

Usually they are fairly soft rocks, from people trying to help.
