dougie paxton
Hi all. I'm building an Airfix dinah, however I don't have Humbrol paints and I'm having trouble cross referencing Hu195 and Hu168, they don't show up often in my charts. My first question is are these colours a rough guess or a fairly accurate representation?Secondly If I don't have the Hymbrol, what's a close paint to use?I have lots of Tamiya, Vallejo and some Revell.Thanks. peebeep
Almost certainly approximate colours, although as it happens 168 is not a bad match for the greys that we now understand many Japanese aircraft were painted in. Try Tamiya XF57. For the green try Tamiya XF13
dougie paxton
Thanks Paul ,that sounds like a good plan. maybe xf 14 for the underside? that's JA too. What would you recommend for the props? Hu160. Thanks for the help.
peebeep
Yes, any red-brown colour would be good to go for the props. XF14 for the grey, why not? The difference in hues with what should be the same colour coming from Mitsubishi and its subcontractors is legendary. Tamiya specify AS18 for their own Dinah kit, this seems to be equivalent to XF14. It would be a fair bet that Dinah production was subject to the same sort of variations in grey colours as the Zero.
