TonyS5264
Hi, just bought one of these locos, and straight out of the box it is struggling with traction. My other locos run fine on my track, but this loco struggles to pull away from a standing start with only 3 x 4 wheel carraiges on tow. I note that the main driving wheel has a rubber traction coating on the rim, which suggests to me that this is a known design issue. The bogie wheels have additional electrical pickups, so the rubber rim does not impact on electrical connection. My track is clean enough to run my other locos without a problem, and my recently published "terrier" pulls the same load without an issue.Has anybody else experienced the same issue? Rog RJ
It's normal for this model as far as i know, even the full size loco didn't have great pulling power. The "rubber coating" on the wheelsi actually a traction tyre (unless someone has added something to it), which can be removed and replaced when necessary. Going Spare
Check that the bogie pick-ups are correctly positioned and are not causing unnecessary drag, and that the bogie is not exerting too much downforce so that the some of the weight is being taken off the driving wheels. TonyS5264
Thank you for the quick replies, but I decided to return it rather than struggle on past the point of no return, or "non-returnability" if there is such a word. I have ordered a more standard loco instead. A Class D16/4 4-4-0.I think that it will be a safer bet.
81F
Just to add to the expectations of anyone thinking of buying this loco. It is actually quite good for what it is but do not expect much from a single. The version with the traction tyres is once long clerestrory better on mny layout (with 140 or 50 gradients) Allowing three to be pulled. My other single (a former Thomas Emily) witll only pull two long clerestories, but that depens on the particular coaches I use. Both will manage the short clearstories out of the box (I haven't gone over four though) but that was what they were originally produced with. However, I have not tried a pulling test with these since I have added my own 3D printed interior and Dean type bogies
