R8241 and R8242

Hello

Just starting out in DCC, I got a Pendolino “Virgin Star” digital set complete with track, Select controller and R8241 digital power track.

Unfortunately, this R8241 came apart on day one, so I figured I would need to buy a new one... or do I? Will R8242 do the same job? I have read elsewhere that R8242 is for points/accessories.

I also have some Peco PL80 power feed joiners. Will these work in DCC?

Thanks in advance

This is mis-information you have read ... or a mis-understanding. True the R8242 is supplied with the R8247 Accessory Decoder for point control. But it can be used for any purpose that requires making an electrical connection to track, not just point accessory decoders.
