iain_mackay
As I could not find any advice or information on motorising R169/170, I have adapted an R169 and used a Triang X404 point motor. Not able to add image Does anyone know if Hornby have plans to make such a unit.
Bulleidboy
I have not read that Hornby have plans to produce electrically operated signals. You might want to have a look at the Dapol range. There are a number of options. https://www.dapol.co.uk/4L-001-006-Junction-Signal-GWR-Left-hand-with-two-arms-shorter-post-to-Left
The son of Triangman
It is possible to motorise the current overstate Hornby junction signals. I know of a company on the norfolk coast that is developing an rtr kit.

SRmike
I think motorising the Hornby signals will be a bit of a problem as a motor or solenoid would need to be mounted vertically. I have electrically operated signals but they are all Hornby Dublo and the base is very bulky so I mount them in the baseboard. They are very difficult to get hold of now. The Duke 71000
Broomie,Try using a electro-mechanical relay. I have just included a photo of one in my latest post on my regular "page" Basingstoke 1958-67, which is designed specifically to operate semaphore signals. I obtained these relays from "MSE" (Model Signal Engineering), a few years ago. These Relays require a 12v DC supply to energise the coil. The Duke 71000. The son of Triangman
No link I'm afraid Rob. It's in It's infancy as they are sorting out other stuff, at the moment I have seen a breadboarded prototype working using standard point motors. Due to covid it won't be hitting the market this year, and there's more r&d to do before it's ready.
Buz
Hi BroomieMy suggestion would be to Keep an eye on evil bay for Hornby Dublo electric semaphore signals they did Home Distant and Split distant in the single mast and in the junction both Home and Distant in good condition these signals have a nicer scale look to the modern Hornby semaphores and are all metal construction. They also turn up with reasonable regularityIf you have the space with a bit of extra thought the electric home and distant signals can be paralleled up so they work together off the one switch. You will need to bury / hide the solenoid base but ensure you can get into it easy for maintenance purposes. These are the only semaphores I know of that where available in electric versions although Trix Twin did do an odd looking manual one that lights up.Dapol is new on the signal scene and I don't know anything about them.regards John
Ruffnut Thorston
Trix did make an electrically operated lighted semaphore signal, before the hand operated, but made to be easier to convert to remote operation (The operating levers had holes to attach a suitable operating linkage to.) lighted signals.Trix lighted Semaphore Signals. The light bulb was in a base unit, that the signal clips onto. The black box clipped onto the base unit, covering the bulb.Plastic light guides take the light to behind the spectacle plate of the signal arm, which is fitted with coloured translucent lenses./media/tinymce_upload/d2b59e56d2c75f91222f35ad26a06c2f.JPG The older version was a bit cruder, as it had the light bulb in a casing alongside the top of the post.../media/tinymce_upload/f5958e8a80c7aeb2d3476d4ccaa6584f.JPG /media/tinymce_upload/9a66849083ade2841524676c620939fd.JPG They also work differently from the Hornby Dublo signals. Trix signals change with every application of power, like the original Dapol signals. So could be worked by a bell push type switch. Hornby Dublo work the same way as point motor solenoids, two separate connnexions required. Ruffnut Thorston
There was also the Hornby Railways R.400 electrically operated Home Signal set, which also isolated the track by the signal, stopping the train. (DC operation only...) https://www.railwaymodellers.com/vintage-hornby-r400-signal-control-set/ Later Hornby single Semaphore Signals came with a base adaptor to take the older type point motor solenoid. The son of Triangman
Another way of motorising. Dapol use a very similar system nowadays. /media/tinymce_upload/8eacab3efb11aa590682900fba00b9f3.jpg
