FishyDelishy
HiI've been trying to find a resolution to my noisy APT model, but none if the threads I've found have solved the issue.I took my motor apart, cleaned it with rubbing alcohol & Goo Gone as per OORails Youtube video. When I reassembled it runs but makes a horrible noise. I've tried silicone oil on the center cog but to no avail. I have it running with all cogs removed at the moment so it's not the cogs or wheels. FishyDelishy
Here's is a YouTube video of it to illustrate.youtube.com/watch?v=elBs6xgKcaYAny help would be gratefully received!
Stubaggieboy
Have you lubricated the armature shaft where they pass through the bearing and face plate? The screeching is normally caused by dry bearing.
Tony57
HiYou need to put a pin pick of oil on the commutator bearing between the brushes as well as on the drive train side.
FishyDelishy
I tried silicone oil on the cog side but not the inside, was trying to avoid taking apart again as it took me ages to put it back together with the new springs and brushes pinging out all the time!! 😢
ColinB
When mine screeched it was the bearing behind the brass drive wheel. I squirted some silicane lubricant on it to cure it. The other thing that happened a lot with mine was the traction tyres squeeling especially in the case of the Britannia where I didn't have exactly the right ones. Funny it only did it after the loco had been running for about 10 minutes.
FishyDelishy
What a difference a drop of oil in the right place can make! Running much quieter and smoother now. Thanks guys. I'll put the cogs back on and see how she runs.
