VESPA
I have pre ordered the Hush Hush from Hornby and used my discount voucher from the Capt Tom class 66 as part of the deal. A nice surprise. I also found a bookazine called X Trains. (Hattons £6.99 +£2.75 p&p) Direct from the publisher, Mortons, £5.00 with free p&p. The frontcover shows the Hush Hush on the Flying Scotsman Express, so hopefully a bit of an information and photos of the loco. Does anyone else have any recommendations of reading about the actual loco?
96RAF
I googled Hush Hush Loco and got the obvious Wiki hits but there was also this link to a British Pathe News clip about it. Some lovely shots showing off the beautiful lines of the loco. There is also this short book about it../media/tinymce_upload/ccfb301efb3df14531554ae019dec9c0.png
The son of Triangman
It's name wasn't Hush Hush, but British Enterprise in original form. The rebuilt loco was Pegasus. It never carried it's names in service. There is a lot of reading on this often forgotten Gresley masterpiece. A 2nd high speed brake trail for Mallard was planned for 1939, a run was also planned for the rebuilt W1 "Pegasus", but world events stopped this. The kylchap blastpipe arrangement fitted to A4's was refined on the W1, the loco worked the heaviest passenger turns on the LNER. Rummours of it trashing Mallards record abounded around the rebuilt loco. More tractive effort and drawbar horsepower than a King, A4 or Duchess. There is so much to read on this forgotten star of steam, but you need to dig it out.
VESPA
Thank you RAF96 for the book link and the Youtube link. MR I was aware of the proposed names for the loco and know Hush Hush was a name of unofficial origins. Similar to Hoovers and Whistlers.

Should be somebody who should be able to assist here. What's the point of issuing a voucher if it's not activated? Al.

VESPA
mjb, glad you sorted your discount code. I had a similar thing today with another code. Now for those interested in detail about the real loco......................... https://www.lner.info/locos/W/w1.php
atom3624
Lot of good information on the W1 there - no mention on LoB - obviously to permit use of turn-tables, but I would anticipate it was one of the longest ever built. Obviously need to update their information under 'models' .... Al.
