Adding crossing points to two separate tracks?

Hi all. I hope you’re all well.

I’m currently in the process of building my first layout. It’s DC, and I’ve decided to purchase a duel controller, so I can run both the inner and outer tracks independently.

Unfortunately I need to add points in order to cross the outer track over the inner track, to reach some sidings. Obviously this would cause a shortage, and cut the power.

For example, if I wanted a loco to cross over the inner track (which will have an opposite positive and negative power supply), could I simply momentarily cut the power of the inner track, whilst the loco crosses over it to enterr the sidings? Or would it still cause a short out?

Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Lee.

Download and read my 'Getting Started' pdf and focus on Chapter 5. Chapter 5 describes a similar scenario of two loops, each powered from two or twin controller outputs. It is recommended in my document that you fit 'Insulated Rail Joiners' between the two points that form the cross-over. It goes on to explain how you use your controller settings to facilitate the transfer of a loco across the cross-over.

You can download my document from the sticky post [2nd one down] located at the top of the 'General Discussion' forum.
