Couplings for R2636 2-6-4 4MT tank loco numbred 42468

Hi all, wonder if you can help.  I have the above mentioned loco and both front and rear couplings are missing.  They mount - I think - onto the bogies but I can't for the life of me see how to fit them. I bought some locos from a deceased friends collection/display and didn't notice the couplings were missing and under the circumstances I don't feel able to take them back.

This happened with three locos!

In this photo of the R2636 you can just make out the dovetail moulding (arrowed) for a NEM pocket coupling. The NEM pocket coupling comes as two parts, the NEM pocket itself that fits into the arrowed moulding and the coupling that press fits into the NEM pocket. The NEM pocket concept means that you can have a standardised mounting into which you can insert a coupling type of your choice. NEM couplings come in different styles and types that all fit in the basic NEM pocket. The NEM pocket has a dovetail shaped (triangular) part that fits into the triangular recess you can just make out in the photo. Note that the dovetail is chamfered and needs to be fitted the correct way round else it easily falls out.

The standard Hornby NEM pocket is part number X6354, the Hornby narrow tension lock coupling is part number R8219 and these can both be supplied as a combined product part number X9289.

The X9289 combined product is shown below:

Google the part numbers to find stockists and suppliers.

The dovetail part on the pocket is slightly tapered so should only go into the loco recess one way. Once started I press them in with a flat bladed screwdriver else they can fall out.

The fishtail mounting the actual coupling can be a pig to fit and it helps to gently squeeze the legs together with tweezers or needle nosed pliers as you go, then they should click into the pocket.

Ditto getting them out - squeeze the legs together and pull on the coupling.
