Pullman Parlour Guards

The pre WW2 Golden Arrow had four parlour guards, specially built in the mid-1920's, Aurora, Flora, JUno & Montana. These cars had a small area for the guard and were built in Birmingham.

Any suggestions on how one might 'model' a suitable replica using a Hornby Pullman car with lights as a basis?

The small guards compartment occupied the space at one end of the car where one of the lavatories might have been and had the usual oval stained glass window.

The bodywork of the four cars were similar in appearance to the later K class first Parlour cars, but there the similarity ended.

They were mounted on a 65 foot queenpost and turnbuckle underframe, and ran on the earlier pattern 8 foot wheelbase American bogies, which was similar to the earlier SE&CR cars. Bodies were 8 foot 7 inche wide and 12 foot 6 inches tall.

The later cars as modelled by Hornby are K class with a a rivetted steel truss underframe made from steel angle and channel, and run on the ten foot special Pullman bogies.

The inward opening doors had rectangular windows with an arched top (a type later only used by the guard on later cars) and not the oval lights.

Conversion is probably do-able but will be quite involved. You will need to significantly modify the underframe and change the bogies, and make new doors.
