C.I.E.
Hi All,Could you tell me if the engines and rolling stock carry the catalogue numbers on them anywhere?I've seen it on my R758 (R768) C.I.E. Livery Class 35 Hymek engines. But other engines/rolling stock that i have don't seem to have any.Cheers, C.I.E..
JJ73
Hello Again Just had a look on a few of my Loco's - can't really see any 'catalogue numbers' on them - best placrs to look is either if you still got them on the side of the box.../media/tinymce_upload/377bbbe94cc6bf2664b848bdb5e3b9da.jpg or Click on to above 'Shop' pull down menu then click on the 'Locomoties' or the 'Wagon & Coaches' & look for the numbers there!!! or again Google is your Friend!!! Rana Temporia
The old Tri-ang locos and rolling stock had the numbers moulded on them which is where the origin of your Hymek lies. Some were altered as the moulds were used for a different loco with a different name or colour. They probably stopped doing it to prevent constant changes being needed to the moulds. Buz
Hi allA good example of reusing is the numbers themselves I am looking for an R119 wagon if you do a search for it you will come up with three options. One of which is a CIE open wagon the one I am looking for, another open wagon and a tanker have also been R119So given the cat no as part of the mould doesn't make sence with models changing using common moulds and number reuse on different wagons and or loco'sregards John
Anglia998
HI BuzPrior to 2001, A single "R" ref. could apply to as many as three different items, e.g. three different locos. The confusion came to an end with R.1000. A four digit reference guarantees that it is unique to that product.
C.I.E.
Cheers for that guys.Looks like unless you have the original box - which in this case I don't - it'll take a bit of detective work to find out the details.C.I.E.
LCDR
There are a number of sources to help you identify older locos this one is used by a number of forum members - http://www.hornbyguide.com/class_details.asp?classid=23 This is good down to 2011. There is the Ramsey guide compiled by Pat Hammond an expert in all things Triang & Hornby who has writted a number of books on the subject including the present "Hornby Book of Trains". The Ramsey guide is now a few years old but is handy for model railway stuff before 2015.
